Running For A Cause

Niall Guite Is Running His First-Ever Half Marathon for Carsington Sailability 🏃‍♂️

On 29th March, Niall Guite will take on the Sheffield Half Marathon — his first ever running event.

Niall has never run before. This will be his first half marathon, and it marks the beginning of a new challenge that will see him go on to run the London Marathon in support of Special Olympics GB.

And he won’t be doing it alone.

Niall will be running alongside his partner in crime, David Scott — his PA, teammate, and constant supporter — taking on this challenge together for a cause close to their hearts.

They are running to raise vital funds for Carsington Sailability, a club that gives people with disabilities the chance to experience confidence, independence and freedom on the water.

Who Is Niall Guite?

Niall Guite is a Special Olympics GB athlete, artist, and disability advocate from Sheffield.

He has competed internationally in basketball and cycling, winning medals at Special Olympics World Games, and is widely recognised for using sport and creativity to challenge perceptions of disability.

Alongside his sporting achievements, Niall runs Art With A Special Goal, a social enterprise promoting inclusion through art, and works with organisations to improve disability awareness and accessibility.

But beyond the medals and advocacy, Niall is also a regular sailor at Carsington Sailability. He knows first-hand the joy, calm, and confidence that being out on the water brings — and he understands how important it is that this opportunity remains available to others.

Now, he’s stepping completely outside his comfort zone — swapping wheels, and sails for running shoes — to give back to a community that has given so much.

Why This Fundraiser Matters

Carsington Sailability has been awarded £19,000 from the National Lottery towards the purchase of a brand-new accessible sailing boat.

Thanks to additional personal donations, the club is well on its way.

But there is still £5,000 left to raise.

And that’s where this challenge comes in.

Where Your Donation Goes

The club is raising funds to purchase a Hawk 20 — a stable, safe, and highly adaptable sailing boat.

This boat can:

  • Be sailed by a crew of two

  • Carry up to six people

  • Enable experienced sailors to take visiting sailors out safely

  • Provide exciting, inclusive sailing on Carsington Water

It will replace the current Drascombe Lugger, which is now 20 years old and no longer meets the club’s safety standards.

The goal is to have the Hawk 20 on the water by the start of the summer sailing season in May.

This new boat will open up more opportunities, more inclusion, and more unforgettable days on the water.

By donating, you’re helping:

✔ Close the final £5,000 gap
✔ Launch a brand-new accessible Hawk 20
✔ Keep sailing inclusive and safe
✔ Support a first-time runner taking on a huge personal challenge

Every donation moves this boat closer to the water. Take a look at this video HERE to see one in action.
